Toss the snow over your right shoulder to feel your backswing, toss it over your left to feel your throughswing
backswing - grip the top/handle with your left hand
downswing - grip the top/handle with your right hand
use "lag pressure" when filling/scooping the snow - steady smooth pressure, feel it supported from the ground up
And as Burner pointed out.... you simply must stay in complete balance
Folks, EdZ's forte is helping people produce better Golf Strokes through visualization. His Swing Images can really help you make it happen. I always read carefully his descriptive thoughts and recommend the same to you.
Saturday Night and Sunday morning's snow strom left 30+ inches of snow in SE Massachusetts. After mindlessly shoveling for ten minutes, I noticed that when the handle shovel was in my left hand (using the other as a guide), making a left hand motion, I used a two barrel hitter motion using PP #1-#3 (vertical hinging-only wanted to throw the snow a short distance forward).
When the handle of the shovel was in my right hand, making a right handed swinging motion and better use of my torso, I used PP #4-#3.
But, I got the best results when I only felt lag pressure against #3 as I pushed the damn snowblower down-out-forward to low point.
Thank you for the kind words Lynn, and for coming out of the swamp to share your wonderful wisedom and poetic prose on this glorious game of G.O.L.F.
Drewit - I know the feeling - this past fall while using the leaf blower I found myself understanding 'lag pressure' in a new way. Being able to 'play' with the wind and leaves - steady and smooth motion creating a 'wall of force'
